a FaShIoN uPdAtE fOr My GiRlS

I know I promised all of you that I would observe the fads here in Europe and let you know what might be coming for US styles. Guys, feel free to skip this part because you will either fall asleep or laugh heartily at our girly interests. Girls, here is what I noticed.

IN:
1) skinny pants
2) gladiator style sandals, part of the new "warrior chic look":
Quite honestly, I'm not particularly fond of either of these fads, so I really do hope that they don't quite make it here to America in full force.
3) mullets on girls. One word: eeeeww...
4) this style of flip flops, which I kinda like, though I hadn't seen them before:

OUT:
1) plaid shorts. This also is too bad, because I really like my plaid shorts. =( Oh well, at least plaid shorts will be in for a while where we are, so I can wear mine for quite some time!

So there you go. Dresses are also very very popular here, but I think it's just because it is so hot. What do you think of these styles? I'm especially interested to hear your stance on gladiator sandals and skinny pants: hot or not? =)

What exactly ARE skinny pants? I assume by the name that they ought also only be worn by skinny people, and that is a description to which many Americans don't hold, though they dress like they are. For that reason, whatever the pants may look like, I hope they do not cross the pond. Especially if the primary fiber is that synthetic monster we all call spandex...

And if they do cross the pond, a friendly note from the protocol teacher... just because it's fashionable doesn't mean it looks good. =D

All I have to say is that skinny pants ONLY look good on SKINNY, PETITE girls. Don't ever try to wear them. I really don't know about those gladiator sandals...what do they look like? I am kinda curious to know. Oh, and please, I repeat, PLEASE don't come back with a mullet...jk :) I know, I know, I sound like a freak, but then again, That Is ME! I miss you...come back soon, so we can start those fashions here....jk Can't wait til you are back!!! I really want to see your pics too....okay, I will stop now. I think that I might be a little jealous...

Just a note of explanation...

Skinny pants may have some spandex in them, I don't know, but they are essentially tight, straight-legged jeans. Their defining feature is the way they taper in at the ankle, rather than flare or remain straight (I can only imagine how difficult they are to get on over your feet!). Sort of like leggings, except in denim. They go great with Uggs, for example, because they fit inside the boots, but I don't like them otherwise.

And gladiator sandals are not really big in America yet, though I think they will be. I believe that all the actresses are beginning to sport them (not that what actresses wear really matters to me anyway...). I decided to add a picture of some gladiator sandals into the post, so everyone can see them.

Now you know! =)

And Lynae, are you calling me FAT?! ;)

You write as if you will be forced to wear these clothes if they become fashionable here in America! Surely not you of all sensible people are succumbing to the American materialistic lie. I will assume not and that I misread your blog.

Skinny jeans are yucky!!! I hope that fad soon ends! The gladiator shoes are okay, I wouldn't wear them but ya know they're not as bad as skinny jeans. Oh, and kim I agrre w/ you the flip flops are kinda cute.:) I really hope mullets don't come back in style, however if they do I think there should be a law passed that anyone with a mullet had to sing the mullet song contiously. That would be fun to see!:)

First of all, Adam, since when were you interested enough in girls' fads to read about them? =)
And I think most of us girls would agree that we don't wear something just because it is 'cool.' Believe it or not, I actually weigh my clothing theologically... I sat down one day with my Bible and thinking cap and outlined the biblical approach to clothes, and I use it all the time. So be careful even indirectly accusing us of American materialism, okay?

I didn't accuse you. Though it may not have seemed like it, I did actually assume to have misread your blog, and know you to be a person of strong Christian character. It seems we both have misunderstood the others' intentions in writing though.
GAA! Death to the impersonal internet!

Okay, I understand now. And I do agree with the impersonal internet rant. I was just pondering yesterday whether increased technology and travel ability moved mankind towards its telos or away from it. I decided that both are sort of in the middle. They are middle things, so we have to be careful how we handle them, especially when it comes to internet communication. It is so terrible compared to personal interaction!
